12 Worst Things That Ever Happened To BoJack Horseman
8. He Wasn't Nominated For An Oscar
A lot of the third season of BoJack Horseman focused around his campaign push to be nominated for an Oscar for Secretariat. BoJack put a lot of stock into thinking that this would be the validation he needed, and would make him happy, at least for a time.
When Mr. Peanutbutter read his name out at the Oscar nomination ceremony, he at first felt the same as before. It took Ana a while to convince him that he deserved it, and when the message finally got through, there was a potential path to happiness for him. Finally, he was being recognized.
However, BoJack was never actually nominated for an Oscar, he just didn’t find out about it until mid way through his huge celebration party. He was surrounded by dozens of people, but as soon as they heard he wasn’t nominated, they all left, just like Diane said they would. She said there would be no one there when BoJack killed himself, and even Ana left him in the wake of such devastation.
This sent BoJack to Sarah-Lynn and a bender that lasted until the Oscars themselves. He ruined a lot of relationships, and was agonizingly close to his rock bottom. Fuelled by the pain of having this nomination cruelly swept out from under him, BoJack potentially ruined Penny’s life all over again, and was the cause of Sarah-Lynn’s death.
