6. Hollyhock's Letter

Throughout the ups and downs of BoJack’s life and BoJack’s career, there was only one person that he genuinely never wanted to let down. Anyone else could have left him and he would have survived, but Hollyhock was unlike anyone else. She was much of his motivation for trying to stay sober.

However, when she met Pete at a party, the same Pete who was with BoJack and Penny at the prom when Maddy got alcohol poisoning, she learned some truly horrifying truths about her brother. This was made even worse by the truth about Sarah-Lynn’s last days coming out.

She wrote him a letter in response to everything that happened rather than actually speaking to him. Deep down BoJack knew it would be the end of their relationship, so he held off reading it. Until he did, she was still a part of his life, but eventually, when he could no longer hear her voice on her voicemail message, he read it.

It was never revealed exactly what Hollyhock said to him, but it was clearly what he feared. He dropped the letter to the ground, devastated by what he had read, headed back into the party he left to call her, and drank. He had just lost the one thing he could never stand to lose.
