While he might not quite have the same level of reverence as Davids Chase and Simon, Alan Ball is - for better or worse (and it's been both) - one of the most important creators in HBO's rise over the last couple of decades.

Having delivered the acclaimed Six Feet Under and the once brilliant True Blood, Ball is returning to HBO with a new drama Here, Now. The show, which received a straight-to-series order (indicating a fair amount of faith in the project, or at least in Ball), will centre around a multiracial American family who lead seemingly happy lives, but harbour deep rifts beneath the surface.

There's more to it than that though, as one of the children begins to see things the other cannot, with a question of whether it's mental illness or something more supernatural. Oscar winners Holly Hunter and Tim Robbins lead the cast, and it promises a very contemporary, relevant, and potentially fantasy-driven take on the family drama.
