6. Waiting In The Wings (Season 3, Episode 13)
"I saw their production of Giselle in 1890. I cried like a baby, and I was evil!"
Written and directed by Joss Whedon, Waiting in the Wings is one of Angel's most inventive and beautifully haunting episodes, a visual feast that is as emotional as it is funny, and as creepy as it is mysterious. It follows Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Fred and Gunn as they attend the ballet and Angel realises the ballerina in the play is the same woman he saw perform there over 100 years ago.
In their investigations, Angel and Cordelia are overcome with a deep passion for each other after being haunted by the souls of two ballet lovers, and Fred wrestles with her feelings for Wesley and Gunn. It's an episode of deeply spooky imagery but also easy comedy, with each actor getting a chance to show off just how funny they can be when given the chance.
Despite this light but spooky tone, Waiting in the Wings also comes with the twist that Angel is actually in love with Cordelia, but before he can do anything about his feelings, Cordy gets together with her old flame Groo. Watching Angel get hurt like that will never be easy.
