15 Best Animated Shows Since The Simpsons

9. BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman is a Netflix animated series. Although there is an element of humour (particularly dark and satirical humour) in the show, it is adept at portraying serious social issues in a way many TV shows have failed to do, dealing primarily with mental health and discrimination.

BoJack Horseman follows the title character, who resides in a world populated with both humans and anthropomorphic animals, as he attempts to make a comeback to stardom (formerly having been the star of a sitcom) - all while dealing with several mental health issues. Other main characters include Princess Carolyn, Diane Nguyen, Mr Peanutbutter, and Todd Chavez.

Aimed at adults, as it plain to see in its mature themes and profanity, it consists of six seasons and seventy-seven episodes, released between 2014 and 2020.

In spite of being divisive when it debuted, BoJack Horseman has, with its later seasons, received almost universal acclaim from critics for its writing and themes.

Show creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg has even cited The Simpsons as a source of inspiration for BoJack Horseman, stating that it was "so influential in so many ways". This fact, coupled with the series' acclaim and worldwide popularity, brings BoJack Horseman into the same league as The Simpsons.
