15 Best Anime Of 2022 (So Far)
8. A Couple Of Cuckoos
The trope of children swapped at birth is a long-lasting narrative tradition that even the likes of Shakespeare grew accustomed to. It's not often it rears its head in the modern-day, but this anime dips its foot into that pool to hilarious effect.
Nagi Umino and Erika Amano are two young people with no connection whatsoever. But that changes after it's revealed that they were accidentally swapped at birth.
Their families believe they can fix this blunder by arranging for them to be married. The only problem is that the youngsters aren't keen on the idea. But, with no one willing to back down, the unconventional couple's relationship is forced to go on.
A Couple of Cuckoos is as ridiculous as it is sweet. It's an easy watch with some wholesome characters and a slow-build romance that predictably but entertainingly falls into place. There's a sugary sweetness to it that makes it go down easily, and the outlandish set-up is cause for some great - if head-scratching - narrative moments.
