Barney was always the break-out star of HIMYM, and season one's Game Night is a key example of his scene-stealing power. A womaniser of the highest order, wealthy and arrogant, the episode sees his hidden past uncovered; a past that shows him not as a charming bachelor, but a peace-loving hippie whose longtime girlfriend broke his heart.
Whilst the episode also offers fans the chance to see Marshall's love for games, and sees Ted admit his past feelings for Robin (Cobie Smulders) to his new girlfriend, Victoria (Ashley Williams), Barney is the star.
The joy of the episode comes in its final moments, when expectations are defied and instead of growing as a person from his heartbreak, he leans into his sleazy ways and proclaims his love for his life and his womanising ways. He also gets the gang to admit their most embarrassing secrets, and proves that not matter how slanderous and smarmy he can be, Barney is a lot more than meets the eye.
