Coming from Black Mirror’s parent network Channel 4, Humans was a big budget British sci-fi series which followed a set of robotic androids who began to plan a revolution against their human captors and overthrow their creators.

Whilst the premise was familiar, the series was elevated by a staggering central turn from Secret Diary of a Call Girl actor Gemma Chan as one of the almost-human androids.

As we learned more of her and her robot co-conspirator’s backstories, along with those of their owners, this show provided a thoughtful and dark meditation on what constitutes a human, as well as the requisite action set pieces and necessary exciting, twisty plotting.
