6. My Catalyst (Season 3, Episode 12)
"Even though my last surgery was two hours ago, I can't stop washing my damn hands."
Scrubs has had many great guest stars turn up throughout the show, though the best of the bunch is probably Michael J. Fox. Fox portrays Dr Kevin Casey, an incredibly gifted specialist who suffers from severe OCD despite being the best doctor in the building.
During his short stay at Sacred Heart, Casey causes some drama amongst the hospital's bigger personalities, but underneath his brilliance it's clear his disorder is effecting him more deeply than people realise. When Turk and Dr Cox try to confront him about his actions during the episode, they put their egos aside when they realise what Casey is living with.
JD, meanwhile, learns a valuable and moving lesson about judgement, understanding and dealing with your own problems. It's funny at first, the OCD purposefully played for laughs, but by turning down the jokes My Catalyst reminds the audience just how difficult it can be to live with a disorder few people seem to know much about.
Plus, Fox's performance is exceptional, and deserves to be seen and seen again.
