9. My Last Words (Season 8, Episode 2)
"I would just hope my last thought was a good one."
Despite always being surrounded by death, both JD and Turk often neglect to contemplate their own mortality. After learning that their terminally ill patient George has no family or friends to console him in his final moments, the doctors cancel their plans for an epic steak night and spend the night by George's side, talking about life and death and drinking beer.
In the end, the fateful encounter not only gives George a fresh, hopeful outlook on his impending death, but also allows JD and Turk to think about human nature outside of their jobs. Deeply philosophical, very moving and brilliantly acted, My Last Words shows off just how mature and optimistic the show had become in its final stretch, and produces some tears and a few big questions in the process.
