15 Best TV Moments Of 2017

1. I Believe You - The Leftovers

The Leftovers Finale
HBO

The Leftovers' third season did have a number of memorable moments, but to distil them down almost detracts from their place in the whole. It was a season where everything served the characters, narrative, and feeling, and it all worked to that larger purpose rather than moments destined to be taken alone. To that end, then, the greatest moment is one of the more low-key, and comes right at the finish.

It all comes down to Nora and Kevin, as we knew it would, as we knew it had to. Nora tells the tale of her crossing over to the other side, where the people who disappeared went to, and coming back. It's the most powerful monologue of 2017, and an incredible, moving performance from Carrie Coon, which ends with the following exchange between her and Kevin:

K: "I believe you."

N: "You do?"

K: "Why wouldn't I? You're here."

N: "I'm here."

The camera never leaves the two of them, refocusing this series of grief into one of acceptance, love, and life. It's simple, effective, affecting, and utterly beautiful.
