13. The Resolution - Big Little Lies

For six episodes Big Little Lies had us enraptured by its murder mystery, high melodrama, and rich characters, but it would've been worth little without a satisfying answer. That came towards the end of the seventh episode and, mercifully, it did not disappoint.

The build-up to this was almost suffocatingly tense across the finale, but especially in the minutes just prior to it. It's the kind of moment when you know something big is going to happen, but are terrified it's going to be something terrible. But then it flips the script and it's Alexander Skarsgård's Perry who gets pushed over the edge, with the added twist of Bonnie being the one who delivers the fatal push.

It manages to be surprising and satisfying, giving the mystery an emotional, empowering, and powerful conclusion.
