6. Mad Men (2007-present)
The lives of the men and women who work in an advertising agency in New York in the 1960s. The agency is enjoying success, but the advertising game becomes more competitive as the industry develops. The agency must adapt to ensure its survival. Don Draper is a talented ad executive at the top of his game, but the secrets from his past and his present threaten to topple his work and family life. Mad Men breaks my heart just thinking about it. It's almost masochistic for me to watch this show. The biggest reason being that the acting is
so damn amazing. I have never seen such good acting on any TV show, ever. Ever. It's practically flawless, which is just so hard to bear. The acting, directing, writing, editing, music, every damn thing, including John Hamm and Christina Hendricks, is perfect. Of course, there are certain episodes that are less effective, but even those are above the quality level of anything else on TV. And it keeps shocking me how can a series that runs at an almost indistinguishably glacial pace be so rewarding? You never know what's going to happen on Mad Men. Goddamn it, this show makes me want to be on TV! All that being said, I can't call this show a "must watch" because honestly, it's not for everyone. I know people whose opinion I value greatly that can't stand it. But they just can't bear the perfection, as far as I am concerned.
