15 Greatest HBO Characters Of All Time
9. Robert Durst
Sometimes, facts truly are stranger than fiction. Riding the post Serial thirst for murder documentaries, in 2015 HBO ran The Jinx, a six part series about Robert Durst, who is either the USA's unluckiest man, or an unhinged lunatic who has somehow thrice gotten away with murder.
Twitchy, gruff, and sporting the black eyes of a shark, Robert Durst must be one of the most fascinating humans ever seen on TV. The heir to a real estate fortune, he has seen three people close to him die under unusual, violent circumstances, and yet continues to roam the streets. Odder still, he thought it prudent to allow a documentary crew into his home to discuss this with him at length.
To be Robert Durst is to live a performance, and you can't help but feel for the septuagenarian alleged multiple murderer as he coughs, fidgets, searches for the right answer, and, in one incredible scene, forgets to turn his microphone off as he visits the bathroom. HBO may have requested only six episodes, but this is a character he's been working on his entire life.
