15 Greatest Performances In Marvel Cinematic Universe TV Shows
1. Vincent D'Onofrio - Wilson Fisk (Daredevil)
The success of Daredevil Season 1 owes as much to its villain as it does its hero. More so, even. Because Wilson Fisk is the greatest villain Marvel have put on a screen of any size so far.
It was unexpected to see a comic book villain given so much screentime and development, presented almost like the alt-hero of this story. And that owes a lot to Vincent D'Onofrio's absolute tour de force.
Of course he's physically imposing - I mean, just look at him - but he's able to use his size to make himself a truly intimidating, larger than life presence. His strength isn't in doubt, but it's the brutality he has to go with it that makes him a terrifying prospect.
And yet he's not just a smash-em-up foe either. There's a lot of intelligence to him too, and D'Onofrio puts as much into him being a thinking man as he does a violent one.
There's a lot of nuance to the character, so much so that you truly begin to understand him, sympathise with him - even, around the mid-point, want to root for him almost as much as you do Matt Murdock. And he's never anything less than compelling - his brief return in Season 2 serving to lift the season out of a mini-slump. D'Onofrio is capable of being cool, he can be sympathetic, and also he can be utterly terrifying.
