Cause Of Death: Stabbed repeatedly by his fellow Night's Watch brothers, "For the Watch." F**k Olly. Why It's Important: Because it's Jon Snow, and he's one of the three biggest characters on Game of Thrones. While major characters dying is nothing new, this was, because along with Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen he was considered untouchable, making this one of the most shocking TV moments of the year (to those who hadn't read the books, at least). But... Jon Snow is coming back. He may be deader than dead, but he won't be staying that way. He's been sighted repeatedly on set during filming, and in costume too, so it wasn't just a case of him visiting old friends. This adds an extra layer of importance to his death. While him dying reinforced the notion of no one being safe on the show, his return a) introduces resurrection on a much bigger scale than we've seen before, and b) means that, yeah, some characters (those already mentioned) almost certainly aren't going to die until at least the very end of the series.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
