The Crown would be pretty big news even without its budget. An ambitious project from Netflix, it's going to attempt to tell the story of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding to Prince Philip through to roughly around the present day, with a six season plan in place.

Starring Claire Foy and Matt Smith, it sounds rather promising, and looks very impressive, as well it should: the show has a budget somewhere (going off varying reports) in the region of $100-150m. Coming on the heels of the similarly pricey The Get Down, it's going to be the most expensive series ever produced by the streaming service, and right up there with the most expensive TV shows ever made.

The question, then, is whether it'll be worth the money? It's got plenty of talent involved, but with a budget rivalling Game of Thrones, it needs to deliver.
