15 TV Shows That Are The Current Best Of Every Genre
9. Horror: Hannibal
Originally met with scepticism due to the inevitable comparison to Anthony Hopkins' iconic performance, it became clear early on that Hannibal was going to be its own beast and shape its own legacy. Bryan Fuller's astonishingly graphic NBC show was a visual feast of nightmarish sequences and gory murders.
Mads Mikkelsen gives a brilliant interpretation of Hannibal Lecter that stands apart from Silence of the Lambs. Mikkelsen's Lecter is mercurial, deflective and a master of manipulation as he controls all those around him.
Fuller's gruesome imagination is on full display as Hannibal is home to some of the most inventively nasty murders ever put on screen from a totem pole of bodies to a human corpse turned into a violin. The imagery included in the show is horrifically beautiful and every frame is a work of art.
As you watch Hannibal prepare various dishes that may or may not include human flesh, you'll find what you're looking at can somehow turn your stomach and make you hungry at the same time. An incredibly disturbing show that is as addictive as it is shocking.
Hannibal's cancellation is one of the biggest travesties in TV from the last few years.
