11. Lewis And Clark

Meriweather Lewis and William Clark are the pair generally credited with discovering much of the American West. They led an expedition, commissioned by Thomas Jefferson, that lasted around two years. During that time they were charged with discovering and mapping new lands, charting routes through the area, and establishing an American presence there. Along the way they were assisted by Sacagawea, in what has now become a famous tale.

The story is told in Stephen Ambrose's book, Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West, and that work will form the basis of the TV show. Casey Affleck and Matthias Schoenaerts will star as Lewis and Clark, while Tom Hanks, Edward Norton, and Brad Pitt are among the producers.

There were concerns raised about the show's future when production halted last summer, which was due to weather-related difficulties, but it is expected to resume filming this spring.
