14. Practical Joke Becomes Reality

Jon And Dany
HBO

Alfie Allen's Theon Greyjoy became one of the most loathsome characters in season 2. Betraying Robb, turning his back on the Northern campaign, taking Winterfell on behalf of the Iron Islands and butchering children, it was satisfying to watch him get his balls chopped off... then we all felt guilty and wanted him to redeem himself. Theon had one of the greatest arcs in the entire show, and his death during the Long Night was the culmination of his redemption.

If Allen's script for the second season was anything to go by, he would have died a lot sooner. In the finale "Valar Morghulis", Alfie read that after his speech to the Ironborn holding Winterfell, instead of being betrayed by his own, he would have been murdered by Bran, who would jump from out of nowhere and stab Theon in the chest.

He was perfectly fine with this and was ready to go ahead with the scene but it was revealed that his death was a joke played on him by the scriptwriters. Little did they realise at the time that Bran would eventually be responsible for Theon's death, as he willingly sacrificed himself to save Bran from the Night King.
