20. Flipper - The First 'Incident'
Yes, we are referring to the 1960's family show about a Bottlenose Dolphin named Flipper, the wild pet of Porter Ricks and his sons Sandy and Bud. Flipper, you'll remember, was a kind of aquatic Lassie, always saving the boys from a perilous situation. Though nothing as perilous as a rampaging smoke monster. So how, do you ask, does a show that was on the air 40 years earlier bear any resemblance to Lost? Way back in 1965, a second season two-part episode of Flipper 'The Ditching', Flipper was transported by air to a lab for study, accompanied by Sandy. But in a dramatic turn of events, the plane crashed into the sea. As audiences wondered if Sandy was going to survive, it was down to the dolphin to help save the day. The connection to Lost? Well that plane was Oceanic Flight 17. It turns out Oceanic Airlines has a long and dramatic TV history spanning four decades. The crash of Oceanic Air Flight 815 was not the first incident, just the latest in a long line of tragedies...
