4. The Crawl Space
If ever there were a scene which highlighted Breaking Bad's artistic merit and uniqueness it would probably be this one. When Walter finds out Skyler has handed over a stashed sum of his money to Ted Beneke, in order to protect their family he breaks down into a maniacal fit of despair that turns into laughter, as the phone rings to confirm a threat on Hank's life. This pushes the artistry of Walt's mental state into the spotlight, expressing his despair in a full-on, almost cartoon-ish fit, unusual for the minimalist genre of television. It's a cathartic release of dread that in any other circumstance would be baffling and massive overkill but in this case works an absolute treat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWfK5JyD2bA
