20 Best British TV Comedy Characters Of All Time
10. Maurice Moss - The IT Crowd
Before Sheldon Cooper, there was Maurice Moss – equally as geeky but much funnier and much less unbearable (sorry Big Bang fans). Moss is part of a little team who work for the fictional company Reynholm Industries. The main cast is small, amplified by the main setting being a closed off office with no window to the outside world, so there is greater focus on the tales of Moss and his colleagues Roy and Jen.
In constant company of a lazy co-worker and a woman who has no clue about computer technology, Moss is an eager worker with an extreme wealth of intelligence. He is proudly nerdy and wears his heart on his sleeve. Unfortunately focusing his mind on academic knowledge, it left no room to work on his social skills. He doesn’t understand the concept of flirting and is often unintentionally sarcastic. A lot of Moss’ charm is also because of his childlike nature – he suppresses any cussing, struggles to lie and has a consistently positive attitude on life.
The most charming member of the bunch with a fantastic actor to play his character, Richard Ayoade’s performance and comical timing helped make The IT Crowd so memorable.
