Who can resist a little bit of tomfoolery from Ethan Rayne? In Halloween, viewers get their first introduction to the warlock who likes to shake Sunnydale up like it's his own little demented snowglobe. In this installment, he decides to cast a spell on a bunch of Halloween costumes so that their wearers will turn into whatever they're dressed as. Bummer. Oh wait, no. That's awesome. Buffy, who is worried about not being an elegant socialite like the girls that Angel would have liked when he was alive, wears a ball gown and turns into a totally useless debutante who gets freaked out by cars driving by. Xander, always one to suffer with self-esteem, gets turned into a confident, take-charge soldier. Willow's a ghost, and several small children are pint-sized demons (literally). And as Spike cheerfully notes during the episode, it's pretty neat. Not all of them have to be serious, save the world stories, you know.
