Buffy the Vampire Slayer, being a midseason replacement, had only been on the air for a dozen episodes or so by the time Prophecy Girl came out, and its future was very much up in the air. But if you have to get cancelled after only one short season, this is how you would want to go out. Luckily, it didn't come to that. Prophecy Girl is one of those episodes that all depends on one actor: in this case, Sarah Michelle Gellar. She owns every inch of this episode, but especially the scene between her and Giles when she discovers that the prophecy says that she's going to be killed by the Master. It's here that everyone suddenly realizes exactly how young this girl is, and what a heavy burden she's being asked to carry on her shoulders.
