Dan Harmon’s second foray into the world of sitcoms fared far better than his earlier work on The Sarah Silverman Show, though this effort did also run into trouble with network executives who didn’t care for the show’s brand of clever, self -referential humour.

Just about managing to reach its promised six seasons, though not without plenty of behind the scenes drama, the show brought together one of TV’s best ensemble casts and introduced viewers to the likes of Alison Brie and Donald Glover as well as reigniting the career of Caddyshack’s Chevy Chase. But it’s the deconstructive edge which made this show so addictive, with its irresistible knack for challenging the conventions of sitcoms, gangster movies, zombie flicks, conspiracy thrillers, any other genre you could name…
