18. Sundowner - Preacher

Best TV Episodes 2016
AMC

In the first half of its debut season, Preacher was often weird and occasionally wonderful, but it hadn't had the episode; the one that really makes people sit up and take notice, and gets everyone talking about it.

Enter Sundowner, the sixth instalment of Preacher Season 1. The episode finally starts to give some answers, in particular revealing exactly what it is inside of Jesse (it's Genesis, the offspring of an illicist tryst between an angel and a demon, obviously). It also has some nice character moments for Tulip, who reveals a softer side.

But really, this episode is all about the motel room fight scene. Taking place among angels, who can die and instantly come back, it's super creative and incredibly violent. It takes up a good chunk of the opening, and it's the best moment Preacher produced.

Coupled with the ending, when Jesse tells Eugene to "go to hell" (and you can guess how that turns out), it makes this easily the strongest instalment of Preacher's solid opening run.
