20 Best TV Shows Of 2019
5. The Boys
It might seem strange to say it of a show so clearly about superheroes, but The Boys was the perfect show for anyone suffering superhero fatigue. It might have included the typical costumes of the super folk, but the characters were anything but typical.
The most violent take on the superhero genre a mainstream show has ever offered up, The Boys explored the dark side of a reality with supers. Involving political intrigue, identity crisis, betrayal, rape, love, drug addiction and cover ups, The Boys was a deeply layered show with a simple idea at its core.
What if the good guys were actually the bad guys?
The Boys mines this idea for all its worth, developing almost all of its characters with impressive depth. More on Mother’s Milk and Queen Maeve would be useful in Season Two, but The Boys has certainly laid the groundwork well to pick up where they left off.
