20 Funniest Community Moments Of All Time

12. Notches

Cold opens and closes are a staple in sitcoms, but not every show commits them to the overall theme of the story quite like Community did. That being said, some of the best bookends of episodes were one-off jokes that were less whacky shenanigans and more cleverly written character jokes.

It's a joke that lands because it rings true with the core of the characters. Abed likes to compare the group to a sitcom family, so he records Jeff's classic "wingers" with notches.

Jeff of course does the same thing when other people mention his abs because of course Jeff would do that. And Troy is just so blissfully simple that he doesn't even need a reason to scratch his key against the wood. He just does it. Community always worked best when characters weren't allowed to be weird for weirdness sake; there was always a character purpose, even if the purpose was asinine.

Key Quote: "Improving Greendale takes more than ideas, Annie. It takes time, gasoline, matches" - Jeff Winger

Andrew is a self-proclaimed humorist/facepuncher, and is one of the last of his kind. He was dragged from the debris in war-torn Poland and plays a piano most beautifully. In closing, he likes pickles. Follow him on Twitter @TheAEJohnson
