20 Greatest Arrowverse Villains
18. Captain Cold
Just as in the comic books that the Flash is drawn from, Captain Cold - Leonard Snart to his friends and parole officer - isn’t much of a supervillain… he’s more of a rogue. Or in this case, Rogue.
The Flash’s Rogues tend to be petty criminals and thieves: cunning bank robbers, larcenists and burglars who use their one gimmick to steal from the rich and give to themselves, and Captain Cold is no exception.
What makes the TV version of Snart such a fantastic bad guy isn’t his eeeeeevil scheming or his position in the narrative as a ruthless, powerful nemesis. No, it’s the pantomime scenery chewing of one Wentworth Miller, whose performance in the role - all sneering sarcasm and moustache-twirling venom, purring like a cartoon cat - made him an instant fan-favourite with the Flash audience from the moment the Captain set foot in Central City.
So much so, in fact, that they chose to make him an antihero, then a genuine hero in Legends Of Tomorrow, where Snart’s brand of snark livened up a very dodgy first season.
