20 Greatest Spock Moments

19. A Loyal First Officer

Throughout Star Trek€™s history, Spock has often demonstrated his willingness to place himself in danger to protect his captain and shipmates. This is clearly shown in The Apple, when the landing party beams down to a planet that seems to be a paradise, but soon proves deadly as the crew discover that the landscape is filled with exploding rocks and flowers that shoot poisonous darts. When one of the killer plants fires its sharp projectiles, Spock shoves Kirk aside and takes the poison for his captain. It turns out to be the right choice, as Spock€™s half-Vulcan chemistry is what saves him from a substance that would probably have killed an ordinary human.
