20 Greatest Spock Moments

13. Best Destiny

One of the marks of a good officer is the ability to recognise the particular talents of each member of his crew, whether of inferior, equal, or superior rank. In an early scene in the second Star Trek feature film, The Wrath of Khan, when the Enterprise is detoured from a training mission to investigate what might be a real situation, Admiral Kirk insists that Captain Spock retain the command chair. Spock counters with the statement that €œCommanding a starship is your first, best destiny; anything else is a waste of material€. This is a sign not only of Spock€™s understanding of his friend€™s best qualities, but also of the fact that Spock values the good of the Enterprise and the success of her mission above personal status or achievement.
