Omar Little is easily one of The Wire's best-liked characters, a Robin Hood-esque gangster who earned much fanfare for his undeniable charm and the fact that most of his crimes are directed towards other criminals. Omar is known for refusing to harm innocent people, his signature shotgun, and the unlikely fact that he happens to gay. Simply, he turns so many stereotypes and conventions of the prototypical gangster character on their head, and people love him for it. Still, like just about every gangster character in the show, he ends up meeting his match. Near the end of season five, Omar is in a convenience store when incredibly young drug dealer Kenard enters and shoots Omar in the head, instantly killing him. Kenard flees the scene, and in the show's final montage, is shown being arrested, presumably for Omar's murder. Omar dying at the hand of a child proved to frustrate many, but it was also both deliciously ironic and disturbing, especially considering in season three, Kenard was briefly shown play-fighting as Omar, and the cyclical nature of the finale suggests that Kenard is likely set for a life just as brutish as that of the man he shot.
