20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Sherlock

6. The Pen Catch Was Done The First Time (But Then Had To Be Re-Done)

In The Blind Banker John tosses Sherlock a pen, which the sleuth catches without even glancing at it. Simple, but brilliant. Not only was this done for real, instead of just using CGI, but it was done the first time the duo tried it. Like Sigourney Weaver sinking that backwards basketball shot in Alien: Resurrection, it's a mighty impressive feat, even with the knowledge that Benedict Cumberbatch had a mirror to help him with his aim. But that's not the end of the story. Due to some technical cock-up the first shot was unusable, meaning the duo had to do the trick again. And again. And again. Replicating the sightless catch proved more difficult than expected, somewhat decreasing the initial success of the first take. It's a wonder they didn't jump up in celebration after it finally worked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KryfbDo5qoU
