20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Seinfeld
5. Susan Was Killed Off Because The Cast Didn't Like The Actress
Of the 45 love interests George Costanza had throughout the series, his main girlfriend is Susan Ross. The character, portrayed by Heidi Swedberg, debuted in Season 4 and was killed off in Season 7 (although she appeared via flashback in Season 9.)
In the episode, The Invitations, George and Susan are preparing for their wedding. Because George is a cheapskate, he orders the cheapest envelopes possible for the wedding invitations. As Susan licks all the envelopes, she absorbs a toxic adhesive from the glue, which poisons her to death.
Since Susan had been one of most recurring characters on the show, fans were upset with her unceremonious death. However, why she was killed off is even more insulting. The cast didn't think Swedberg's comedic style suit the show so Julia Louis-Dreyfus convinced Larry David to boot her off. In hindsight, David found his decision to be surprisingly cruel and said "I can't believe that I killed this girl".
Swedberg herself stated that she had no problem with how she was killed and harbours no ill will towards the cast. Unfortunately, many viewers strongly disagreed and found Susan's removal to be one of the lowest points in the series.
