20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About American Horror Story

10. Maria Laveau & Madame LaLurie Were Also Real

It's already been discussed that one of the season 3 characters was real, and so were these pair. Marie Laveau was a well-respected and renowned voodoo practitioner in New Orleans. She also practiced Voudoun, and she and her mother had great influence over their mutual multiracial following. According to stories, as many as twelve thousand spectators once swarmed the shores of Lake Pontchartrain to see Laveau performing her legendary rites on St. John€™s Eve. In contrast, Madame LaLurie was a Louisiana born socialite and serial killer known for her torture and murder of slaves. Throughout most of her life she maintained a prominent position in the social circles of New Orleans before rescuers responding to a fire at her Royal Street mansion discovered the extent of her crimes. Unfortunately, there€™s no historical evidence that the characters ever came in to contact with each other in real life, despite their relationship on American Horror Story. Oh, and speaking of evil characters, don€™t try and summon Papa Legba, the supernatural tormentor and spirit-world gatekeeper, because he is in fact a real entity in Haitian voodoo.
