The leather-clad outfit of Green Arrow on the show may look like it belongs to someone with an obsession with leather, but there is a reason for why the character has such a distinctive look. The actor behind the mask, Stephen Amell, has said that when they were designing the costume the key question was whether he could put the suit on himself. If he could get it on without assistance, he reasoned that people would see it as somewhat believable. This has certainly succeeded, as there is no doubt that he could dress himself without needing to be zipped into the suit by assistants. The dark green leather allows him to blend into the shadows in a manner reminiscent of Batman, and his hood has concealed his identity relatively well over the last three seasons. The suit has spare arrows on the arm, and the leather has become useful now that he seems to ride a motorcycle to crime scenes in many episodes. Much like Nolans Batman films, the suit has been designed to work, and in the action scenes we can see this although the green smudge over his eyes meant that he spent most of the first series with his eyes fixated on the floor.
