In the show's very first episode the Lone Gunmen discover and eventually thwart an attempt by the United States government to hijack a commercial airliner, fly it into the World Trade Centre, blame the attack on foreign terrorists, and use the incident as an precursor to a profit-making war on foreign soil. The episode aired on March 4th 2001, a mere 6 months before the al Qaeda attacks on the twin towers.
