Few upcoming new shows are as exciting as American Gods. Neil Gaiman's seminal novel has long felt ripe for an adaptation, and TV should be the perfect home for it, allowing the series time to breathe and grow.

Given there's only one book it'll be interesting to see where they take things, and just how much happens in the first season. At the very least, though, we can expect some great world building and introductions to a number of fascinating characters, Gods or otherwise.

One of the early moments that should really help establish the tone of the show, and be an early indicator of whether they've nailed the books, is the bar fight between Shadow and Mad Sweeney.

A brawl between an ex-con and a leprechaun while a God looks on, in a crocodile bar, it's an important scene: it sets the tone, introduces Shadow to this world (and by turn, the audience), and is where he proves himself, beginning the journey with Mr Wednesday. If they get it right, it should be a memorable one too.
