20 TV Episodes That Are Totally Flawless
5. Bastogne - Band Of Brothers
Every episode of HBO's war miniseries Band of Brothers is exceptional, but its sixth instalment, Bastogne, stands tall as the show's crowning achievement.
Taking place during the harrowing Battle of the Bulge, it finds Easy Company dangerously low on equipment, men and morale. With no food, medical supplies and limited ammo, audiences are shown the conflict through the eyes of company medic Eugene "Doc" Roe, as he tries desperately to keep the group alive.
Throughout the episode, long-standing mainstays are forced out of the conflict due to injury, and many more die as their position is constantly bombarded with mortar fire. All the while, Doc scrambles to help the injured, and slowly loses faith in their situation.
It's a gripping hour of TV, constantly twisting and highlighting the horrors of the conflict with more palpable tension than ever. It's true strength, though, is in how it ends, as the soldiers manage to find the strength to keep powering forward, simultaneously helping each other overcome the tough odds and refusing to back down.
