20 TV Show Finales That Are Totally Flawless

4. The Book Of Nora - The Leftovers

The Leftovers made an artform out of portraying grief on the small screen. For some, the series was too agonising and dark to keep up with; for others, it's a startling assessment of loss, mourning, and the way in which people deal with unexplained tragedy.

In a world where 2% of the world's population has disappeared without a trace, a small community attempt to move on, but find that actually doing so is a lot easier said than done.

By the time of the cathartic series finale, The Book of Nora, the main host of characters have been through the wringer and then some, and few of the series' biggest questions have been answered. In the finale, Nora Durst (a revelatory Carrie Coon) takes centre stage and reveals some of the show's most devastating secrets, without giving too much away.

The genius of The Book of Nora is how it refuses to complicate things with exposition. The Leftovers was never about the Departure, but the characters left in its wake and how they dealt with it. The finale makes that clear, and allows at least some of its characters a chance at peace in the process.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
