17. Martha Logan (Days 5 And 6)
From the moment she was told of David Palmer’s assassination by that spineless coward Walt Cummins, Martha was on a personal crusade to find out the truth behind it all. However Cummins - and later on her husband, President Charles Logan - put her apparent outlandish theories down to her paranoia. Which was a convincing enough argument given Martha’s unstable mental behaviour in the past.
Eventually, after all the trials and tribulations, when all hope seemed lost, when all avenues seemed to be exhausted, Martha in the end got Charles to admit his part in David Palmer’s assassination. The look on her face as her disgraced husband gets escorted away by Secret Service agents is pure magic.
But that smile belied the turmoil within her, as we find a decidedly delicate, awkward and tense Martha in season six. Add the spectre of her now ex-husband into the mix, then naturally all hell broke lose when she stabs Charles in the shoulder, which could only have served to cause further setback in her mental recovery. And probably resulted in her and Aaron's break-up too.
