25 Best Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

1. Smallville

Arrow Season 1
Warner Bros

The unsung hero of this modern superhero resurgence, Smallville was bringing comic book heroes back to TV long before the Arrowverse made it cool. A prequel series that documented a teenage Clark Kent's journey from boy to man, it successfully paired the young Man of Steel's struggles over his alien origins with the everyday pressures of adolescence and high school, and it evolved into a pretty great superhero series while it was at it.

Tom Welling's portrayal of Clark deserves to be brought up when talking about the greatest Supermen of all time, just as Michael Rosenbaum's should in regards to Lex Luthor and Erica Durance for Lois Lane. Yes, the fact is that Smallville had a cast so well-matched to the iconic roles they portrayed that everything felt so natural - so authentic - that it was hard to imagine anyone else ever playing these characters. And that's just an example of how timeless this series is.

A nostalgic, heartwarming and triumphant tale, Smallville showed us that sometimes a hero's best days aren't the ones we read about it the comic books, and it provided us all with 10 wonderful years of non-stop adventures. And for that, a generation of superhero fans will always be grateful.
