Aaron Sorkin is a lifelong friend of Joshua Malina - and that is one of the reasons he decided to introduce him into series four as Will Bailey.

Malina not only appeared as Bailey - who later became Deputy White House Communications Director and then Chief of Staff for the Vice-President - but he has also featured in almost every single thing Sorkin has ever written, with the prime exception of "The Newsroom". Most particularly, he appears in "The American President" and "Sports Night".

Malina was also known as a prankster on set - removing the last pages from books cast members were reading, altering the language settings on their iPods, and even sending flowers to Jimmy Smits (Congressman Matt Santos) saying they were from Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman).
