25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2017
19. The Handmaid's Tale
Who: Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, Joseph Fiennes
What: An adaptation of Margot Atwood's classic novel, which takes place in a dystopian near-future where the U.S. has been taken over by a totalitarian theocracy. Women's rights are removed, but one of the so-called Handmaids - a woman kept around for childbearing reasons - begins an affair, of sorts, with her commander.
Why: Atwood's book is a revered work of feminist fiction, and its themes still sadly feel relevant today. There's definitely scope for this to be a timely, thoughtful work of television, and having the superb Elisabeth Moss leading the cast should help.
Where & When: Hulu, April 26
