25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2019

6. Watchmen

Watchmen TV Show
HBO

Who: Damon Lindelof (creator/showrunner); Regina King, Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

What: A new story based upon - not an adaptation of - Alan Moore's seminal comic book. Set in an alternate version of history where superheroes are treated as outlaws, the series will attempt to honour the original while breaking ground of its own.

Why: Watchmen may be considered unadaptable, but a TV series allows for much more room to tell a story in that universe with all the necessary breadth and scope it deserves. And, of course, it isn't an adaptation, which should mean we can somewhat avoid comparisons and it won't need to suffer from trying to make something fit when it clearly doesn't. There'll still be great characters fans are familiar with, including Irons as Ozymandias, and new heroes too. HBO are betting big on this, which is a good sign, and Lindelof's coming off the back of one of the best TV shows of the decade.

Where & When: HBO, TBC.
