30 Greatest Ever Moments In The Walking Dead

26. Eugene Saves The Day

The Walking Dead Negan
AMC

Though season eight is far from a beloved chapter of The Walking Dead's run, it does have one particularly brilliant moment courtesy (of all people) of Eugene, the show's most cartoonish and frequently unlikable character at the time.

After too many episodes of back-and-forth between Rick and Negan's respective groups, the season finale brings the All Out War drama to a head by teasing an epic final battle. But the clash never comes, the writers instead subverting expectations by having the Savors' guns malfunction.

As it turns out, Eugene was never on Negan's side, and was only using his newfound power to ruin the enigmatic leader's plans. His deception kills dozens of Saviors poised to kill his friends, and allows Rick to end the war by slitting Negan's throat.
