How I Met Your Mother was a show which came out at the right place at the right time. With Friends coming to an end the previous year, HIMYM ended up being the show sitcom fans were after.
Following the lives of a group of friends as they navigate life, love and everything in-between, HIMYM's intelligent and unique narrative made it a fresh and intriguing addition to TV. As Ted recounts his life tale to his kids, we get to meet fan favourites Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin, and though the constant mystery of who the mother is remains the main drive of the series, it's really about the group and their friendship and how it changes over time.
Often hilarious but sometimes heartbreaking, How I Met Your Mother is one of the most touching and relatable shows on this list.
