Possessing a rather large flare for the dramatics, Jenna Maroney was probably the most fascinating character to watch in 30 Rock. A natural performer, Jenna was the star of The Girlie Show (or TGS), a sketch show not too dissimilar to Saturday Night Live who’s behind the scenes antics made for the backdrop for the hilariously satirical sitcom.
Self-centred and more than a tad conceited, Jenna still managed to came across as sympathetic during the show’s 7 seasons and 139 episodes. We understood as she lied about her age to ensure she kept working on the big and small screen, we failed to condemn her when she lived up to the dumb blonde stereotype for sometimes getting basic facts wrong (yes, we’ll even forgive her for accidentally confusing Barack Obama with Osama bin Laden… because, well… she’s Jenna!) and we of course naturally sympathise with her jealously of Tracy Jordan, the younger star who was hired to essentially phase Jenna out.
Jane Krakowski’s fully-rounded performance made Jenna be someone you wanted to see succeed in life and work, no matter how hard she sometimes made it for herself by being selfish.
