4 Iconic TV Characters Recast After The Pilot

1. Baldrick (Blackadder)

baldrick €˜My lord, I have a cunning plan€™ It is hard to imagine those words coming out of anybody except Tony Robinson€™s mouth but had the entire original cast of Blackadder been retained for production of the series, it may have been the case. The original pilot for the programme, which was set in Elizabethan times (a setting eventually reused for the second series of the show) saw an idiotic Baldrick paired with a shrewd and clever Blackadder (a dynamic that was featured in the second, third and fourth series, but was bizarrely reversed in the first). In this episode, Baldrick was played by an actor named Philip Fox, who occasionally pops up in radio productions and the occasional television episode. Tony Robinson, meanwhile, has gone on to become an accomplished amateur historian and television presenter, and was knighted this week in the Queen€™s Birthday Honours, becoming a sir.
